I suppose this season's events have been overshadowed by the floods and water shortage. At the height of the crisis only nine members turned up for one Thursday session. Some probably thought that we would be closed, others otherwise occupied with bottles and bowsers. But if you know us, you will know that we never close! Rob and Mike saved the day bringing various containers of water from Stroud - even for flushing the toilet! Well done boys.
For me the highlight of the season was the ghost tour around Gloucester with Lyn. What a character and what a spooky time we had exploring some of the places not usually open to the public and hearing about the boy in the window etc.
We explored mental health issues on one Thursday and it was obvious that some of us had experienced our own difficulties in this area - others were made more aware. As usual questions and answers proved to be very worthwhile and helpful literature was given out.
Ten of us enjoyed a skittles evening at Cleeve Golf Course - in their skittles ally, not the course itself! It was great to see so many had made it considering floods, problems with roads etc. Ray and Malvin won the trophy and bottle of wine. As usual we were made to feel at home with the food tasty as ever.
Coffee and Chats have been enjoyable. Some of us have been busy sticking labels on our advertising and publicity literature to bring ourselves up to date. We are grateful to Iain for all his work on the website.
Peter's "Gateway to Heaven" DVD was thought provoking. Modern day actors express their feelings and thoughts about being gay and related their life experiences.
Our first Karaoke evening was a laugh and it is good that we are making regular use of our new projector. We also used it to watch a film on the Cotswolds - a bit long but informative.
The number of members who helped with and supported our stall on Rainbow Day was encouraging. We raised £170 on our raffle for the Flood Appeal. Thanks again to Mike and Rob for attending the committee meetings.
This year we accepted an invitation from Gay West to join them for their picnic at 'Camers' in Old Sodbury. Luckily that we did, for it bucketed down and shelter was provided! G.G.L.C. won the treasure hunt. Thanks to Gerry and all at G.W.
Other activities have been a discussion ('Why am I gay?') etc, and two quizzes on DVD. We look forward to an archive evening. It should be interesting for us new ones to see the photos of the longer serving members when they were younger!
Let's hope it's fine for rounders at Minchinhampton Common.
Best Wishes, keep your ideas coming.
