I think everyone was a little apprehensive wondering how the day would go.
We need not have worried, it was a great success. Mike and Rob arrived early and
the garden was already buzzing with different organisations setting up their
stands when I arrived. About a dozen were represented including Police, Fire,
Fyne Times, Gloucester Council, Gay-Glos, U.K. Gay News and of course GGLC.
The weather remained fine throughout the day, but there were times when we
thought the marquee would take off in the wind!.
Mike and Rob had worked hard preparing the Raffle tickets and prizes (over 60).
John, Graham, Tony and Neil joined us during the morning. The event made the lead
story on BBC Radio Gloucester news and Andy interviewed Steve Blake and I for a
live broadcast at 11.30
At 12.45 the majority moved off in to the City to join the march which arrived
back at the pub around 2.00. I think every one was impressed with the actual
number who took part in the march (around 80) and fortunately they did not
experience any hassle.
We were soon surrounded by customers for the raffle and the good natured crowd
were very generous. We sold all our tickets by 3.00 p.m. and our grand total
was £84.
Our display stand created a lot of interest and those attending were only too
happy to take our leaflets. We met many old members of GGLC and hopefully we
have created interest to attract some new ones.
Graham attended the Q & A session with the 3 Iraqis discussing the situation in
their country since Saddam Hussein was deposed.
A thoroughly enjoyable day, and one which we hope will be repeated next year.
I have written to Chris on behalf of the group, congratulating him and his team
on a job very well done.
Peter.
