The Autumn Season 2006

Once again numbers have been encouraging so we must be doing something right—we hope so!

We have had several speakers. Nigel G. gave a thought provoking talk on Amnesty

International. Barbara C.’s theme was Spirits and Spirituality. Rita B. and Val’s brief

was Acupuncture and good health. Some brave souls volunteered to receive the needles!

I was surprised how small these needles were. Thanks to Alan for arranging that. Our own

Steve B. treated us to a feast of pictures around Gloucestershire. The quality of the

slides and Steve’s talk were excellent—What a county we live in!

I organised an evening entitled ‘Which one?’. It was amazing what we learnt about each

other. Alan and Michael CH showed us some glimpses of Canada from various holidays. We

certainly need our technical expert Iain to help us with our new projector. We enjoyed a

second music evening when members brought in CDs of their choice.

The highlight of the season must surely have been the Sound of Music sing-a-long. Only one

crazy member dressed up (as a lonely goatherd) but we really enjoyed singing along to the

songs. One seasoned member was heard to say “That was the campest thing we have ever done”.

Thanks to Peter C and Neil for providing the video/CD.

A large group of us and a few dogs enjoyed a great picnic at Canop Ponds, The weather held

out! Rounders was not very well supported but again enjoyed by those who played and

watched. Mixed teams seems to be the new order.

This year’s Annual Dinner was first class—more about that elsewhere. Very many thanks to

our Chairman for booking it, hosting it and doing a great deal as usual. We have yet to

enjoy the pictures taken on our new equipment.

Coffee and chats have gone well, sometimes we sit in a big circle, other times it is more

flexible and informal.

We still have my talk on Workhouses, Graham’s Games, Christmas get together/party and a

chill out, so you can see we have been busy!
