The Autumn Season

I sometimes am amazed how we manage to arrange enough activities to cover all the months.

We hope our program appeals to you. As usual we want members to come forth with their

own ideas. — we promise to listen to you!

We began September with Peter and Niel’s Call My Bluff. The night was very well organised,

great fun and something we aim to repeat. Then Peter, our resident Art teacher had us

making and decorating clay tiles. We look forward to seeing the finished product.

(editors note—Peter brought them back a few weeks ago, some very creative work and stunning
 results).

Coffee and Chat evenings have sometimes been including a theme for discussion,

though we are aware some prefer the traditional format.

We were victorious in the Rounders Competition against the ladies at Michenhampton Common

on September 18th. Mike B worked hard to ensure we had a good time, and it was worth the

effort!

Well done to all who played Iain’s Highway Code Quiz, which was a first as far as I know.

Should some of us be on the road at all?

(possibly not in Korea, or some of the places the signs come from! Editor).

I then arranged a Show and Tell session. It looked as if few of the chaps had brought

in any treasured possessions or mementos, but I need not have worried. Bill’s paintings

are truly amazing! Carolyn and her colleague from Rickerbys gave us an informative talk

on the legal issues involved in Civil Partnership on October 6th, then a week later Gary

and Dave from the Coach and horses came to join us for coffee and chat. It was clear

that they really do rely and need the communities custom. Gary made some thought

provoking comments about our program of events.

Sarah’s Energy evening was just brilliant as usual. She had some of us jumping around

on a kind of giant Snakes & Ladders mat while making us reflect on saving the big ‘E’.

My T.V. Past and Present Quiz followed, though this was obviously a puzzel for

Ken (American) and Ziggy (Belgian)! (and those of us too young to remember, or is that

with memories fading due to age? Editor).

On 3rd November members were invited to make a table decoration for the Annual Dinner.

These were very inventive and I thought Graham’s bonfire was very good. The Dinner

itself was like the curate’s egg, good in parts!.

Michael CH gave us the latest details about Civil Partnerships, and we are indeed

fortunate to have our own expert/celebrant.

The Challenge on 17th November involved members getting to know an edition of the

Gloucestershire Echo newspaper, finding information and ‘doing’ things with the paper!

Steve Bailey gave us a tour around Los Angeles. What a place! This was an informative

evening much enjoyed by all.

As I write we look forward to two talks and some activities with—what else?

- a Christmas theme!

Happy New Year
